EXHIBITION: "Herbarium II: Photo(synthesis) Album" at Smokestack in Hamilton Spring 2025

Herbarium II: Photo(synthesis) Album
January 17 – February 21, 2025

Herbarium II: Photo(synthesis) Album presents a new body of work that expands upon her most recent experimentations with chlorophyll printing.

An herbarium is a collection of dried plant specimens used for scientific study. In these works, Bos transforms her own herbarium into a photo album by using sunlight to create images on leaves. The resulting chlorophyll prints are made using the natural chemistry at work in a living plant – what could be considered the ultimate sustainable photographic process. The images Bos has selected to print ‘into’ the leaves reflect connections between the natural and built environment: structural similarities between the botanical anatomy of leaves & trees and the form & design of architecture that suggest associations between recognized impermanence and preceived stability.
